What I love most about exploring New York State is when we discover a truly unique and exceptionally exquisite place. I keep thinking that I am going to run out of these amazing places to share, and then just like that, we find another one like Barcelona Falls. We visited on a cold and cloudy day, but even that couldn’t subtract from how stunning this destination was.

Westlake Public Beach
Let me just first start by saying that I am sure that this beach is kept exceptionally clean during the summer when the beach is open, but in the wintertime, this beach was covered in all shapes and sizes of driftwood. If you are a beachcomber looking for driftwood, this beach might just be the jackpot. This is a beautiful sandy beach. It was breathtaking, even in the wintertime.
The Falls
Barcelona Falls is not just beautiful, it’s completely stunning. It is unusual to have a waterfall right on a beach but that is exactly where this waterfall is located. Barcelona Falls are located at the very end of Westlake Beach but it is not the only waterfall on this beach, which makes this destination even more spectacular. The flow of this waterfall varies based on the local water table. We visited after a particularly dry summer. The waterfall wasn’t dry, it was flowing but it was gushing like I can imagine it might be after a heavy rain.
The first waterfall is nice and wide and sits right at the first curve on the beach. It can be seen easily from the parking lot. At first, we thought this might be THE Barcelona Falls, but it was just an additional waterfall that only added to our memorable experience. Further down the beach, for those with really good eyesight, you can almost see Barcelona Falls from the beach parking lot.
When you reach Barcelona Falls, after walking along the beach, take a minute to appreciate the beautiful surroundings. This is one of the most unique waterfalls you will find in New York. We had a great time just exploring the beach around us. My hubby actually found me a perfectly shaped heart stone right by the waterfall.

The Eternal Flame Falls is by far one of my favorite and awe-inspiring hikes. This waterfall is a natural wonder. The Eternal Flame has definitely become more well-known and popular in recent years
Barcelona Lighthouse
Barcelona Lighthouse, also known as the Portland Harbor Light, was built in 1829. It stands over Lake Erie and can be seen all the way across the Lake in Canada.
Evangola State Park
Some places in New York State were just made for watching sunsets and Evangola State Park is one of them. Perched just perfectly on Lake Erie, this magnificent state park is perfect for enjoying everything that is beautiful about the nature of New York State.
