Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, I am a big fan of Land Trusts! These organizations purchase plots of land and turn them into places where people like you and me can hike and enjoy the picturesque beauty of nature, all the while protecting the land from development and, more importantly, the wildlife.

Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve

The Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve is a gorgeous preserve that has more than just a meadow for visitors, but woodlands and, of course, Ganargua Creek which cuts through the property. However, the meadow is the crowning glory of this sanctuary, and when we visited at the height of summer, we were greeted by dancing butterflies and dragonflies as we wandered around this stunning meadow full of colorful wildflowers. It was a beautiful sunny day when we visited and the blue sky against the green meadow was absolutely breathtaking.

Hiking Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve

Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve

We entered the preserve from the parking area on Bunker Hill Drive. There is a bigger parking area on Wilkinson Rd, but if you enter the preserve from that trailhead, you miss out on a lovely hike through the woods. (Which I will note was not at all buggy, particularly in a summer when the mosquitos had been voracious.)

The trail from the Wilkinson Road parking area has minimal elevation and provides easier access to the meadow. The Bunker Hill trailhead features numerous switchbacks as it heads downhill to the meadow. (which means you will have to return uphill to reach your vehicle again. Honestly, as hills go, it wasn’t that bad. The trail was nicely made, and most of the passes felt more or less flat. Obviously, we were hiking uphill, but I didn’t feel like I was fighting for breath.

The other reason I preferred the entrance from Bunker Hill was just how impressive it was, exiting the woods and entering the meadow. It was spectacular seeing the sharp contrast.

Ganargua Creek

Ganargua Creek weaves through the preserve, and there are several spots where you can access the creek. People visit the preserve just to fish the creek. The creek is beautiful and a great addition to this preserve. We spent a great deal of our visit sitting on the bank watching Nova, our dog, playing in the water.

Out and About with Nova

Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve

This was a fun outing with Nova. She always enjoys our hikes, but this one was quite different from the other places we have taken her to. She was so excited to see all the butterflies and dragonflies flying about. She absolutely loved the creek here and prancing around in the water.

Dogs are welcome here; however, they must be leashed at all times. Please be respectful of other visitors and clean up after your pet.
