It should surprise no one at this point that when I get excited about something, I like to shout it from the mountaintops and tell the world about it. Well… prepare yourselves, because I’m about to gush about the new love of my outdoor life, my Kuhl Splash Roll-Up hiking pants.
As an avid hiker and outdoorswoman, I naturally have several pairs of hiking pants, which are from my go-to brands. However, after trying the Kuhl Splash Roll-Up hiking pants, I am forced to admit that the quality, fit, and style of these hiking pants put them in a league of their own. These hiking pants are superior in so many ways, my former hiking pant just can’t measure up.
Quality
What I noticed right away was the obvious quality of these pants. The material and the pant’s construction are clearly cut above the rest. The Kuhl Splash Roll-Up Pants don’t have that same paper-thin feeling, as other hiking pants. Don’t get me wrong they feel lightweight but the material felts like it had substance to it. The fabric feels like It could actually take being ripped on by branches and sharp rocks and remain intact. These are seriously well-made pants.
Also, one thing I really appreciate about these pants is that they are quiet. I know this sounds weird, but bear with me. My other pairs of hiking pants are somewhat noisy, the way the material makes a swishing sound when I’m hiking. Which is, by the way, one of the last things you want while exploring the great outdoors. The material of the Splash Roll-Up Pants is for lack of a better description, soft and silent when you’re walking.
Great Fit
I think what I loved most about these pants is the fit. They fit me like they were made for me! I am not a fan of skin-tight clothing, I like to be able to breathe. Therefore, in order to find comfort, my pants can often appear baggy. The Kuhl Splash Roll-Up Hiking Pants fit in a way that is both flattering and comfortable. These pants have next-generation stretch and flexibility, without feeling constrictive. The Splash Roll-Up pants are very true to size, taking the worry out of ordering them online. They are also available in 4 different inseams, which makes finding your perfect length easy.
Roll ‘Em Up
Living here in New York, it isn’t unusual for us to enjoy all four seasons in one day. These pants are adaptable, which makes them a good choice for days when the temperature goes up and down like a yo-yo. The pant legs roll up into the cutest pair of capri pants, if the weather gets warmer than anticipated… or you just want to get your feet wet.
The bottom of the pants roll up easily and are secured by button closures on both sides. The closures are extremely functional and add a smart look to the Capri style of the pants.
Pockets! Pockets Everywhere!
I love me some pockets and these pants have lots of them, which is a handy thing to have when you are in the great outdoors. I could easily fit my phone in both the cargo pockets on the side and in the back pockets, which both have button closures. The cargo pockets were deep enough for my phone and I could button the pocket to secure it and keep it from falling out. I am a rock hound, so having numerous pockets to stash my little treasures in is a huge bonus.
Stylish
This is the part where I go all girly. Although style isn’t one of the reasons people buy hiking pants, it is what put these pants over the top for me. These pants aren’t just functional, they are super cute! They have all sorts of tiny details that add a special flare. These aren’t just pants that will hide in a drawer and only be pulled out to wear hiking, these babies are replacing my favorite pair of pants. I just love the way they look and the way I look in them.
Cost
These pants retail for $85, which might sound expensive but it is actually on par with the price of hiking pants across the board. Except you are actually, in my opinion, getting more bang for your buck with these.
Wash & Wear
As cute and stylish as these pants are, they are bound to get dirty, and their care is almost as important as their appearance if you want them to last. I wore my Splash Roll-Up pants on their first hike at McIntyre Bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario. They got pretty dusty and dirty as we climbed around the bluffs and down to the beach.
I gave them the final test, washing them. They cleaned up like new and dried in the blink of an eye. The dirt and grim I had accumulated vanished as if we had never been at the bluffs in the first place and they are ready for our next adventure.
These Kuhl Splash Roll-Up Pants have been a total game-changer for me. I don’t think I can settle for run of the mill hiking pants after this. It has forever changed what I expect and desire from my hiking pants. They have raised the bar in a huge way. In fact, I think my entire perspective on hiking apparel has been altered… and I have a new go-to brand.
