I love visiting waterfalls and there are hundreds in New York to feed my obsession. Some take some skill and endurance to get to while others, like Medina Falls, are almost too easy to get to. This waterfall takes little to no effort to view and it is a great destination to visit when you want to experience some incredible beauty without having to expend a great deal of effort.

Erie Canal

The falls can be viewed from the Erie Canal. Upon first inspection, I thought that this waterfall was fed by the Erie Canal. It is in fact fed by Oak Orchard Creek. This is a really pretty section of the Canal that has the town of Medina as a backdrop on one side and a huge area of woods on the other. We don’t walk the Erie Canal much, but we really liked this part of it. This section seems wider than other sections I’ve seen. There is even a boat launch and docks here.

Medina Falls

If you walk about 100 feet along the Erie Canal, the tree opens up to reveal a beautiful waterfall. The falls here are quite impressive because even though they aren’t super tall, they are really wide and full. You can’t get close to this waterfall from the land but the view is still spectacular. This is a really beautiful spot and the trees actually create a frame around the falls for great pictures.

Keep an eye on little ones here. There is nothing to keep them from falling into the canal or climbing over the railing. This is a very stroller-friendly destination.
