There appears to be a surplus of Long Point State Parks in New York State. There are 3 in fact. The one that we recently visited is on Cayuga Lake. This is the smallest of the three but it is just as lovely and charming. Long Point State Park allows visitors to enjoy a splendid view of Cayuga Lake as well as enjoy all the amenities available there.

Long Point State Park Beach

One of the crown jewels of this state park is the beach. There is a great deal of beach to explore and it comes to a neat point in the middle, punctuated with a small lighthouse. This is a great place to escape the heat of summer and soak up the sun. This is also a fabulous place to watch the sunset.

Boat launch

Boaters will love the boat launch. There are four lanes to accommodate multiple boats putting in and pulling out. There is a large parking lot at the top of the park to boat trailers that has a staircase leading back down to the boat launch. The stone walkways that run along either side of the boat launch are perfect for fishing. There is a fishing platform at the end of one of them. This is an excellent place to paddle as well.

Trails

There are 4.5 miles of trails at Long Point State Park which include brushland, grasslands, spruce plantations, mature forests, and a creek ravine. For those who are looking to get back to nature, visitors can see a variety of birds and wildlife. In the winter, visitors can cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing on the hiking trails.

Long Point State Park Facilities

Long Point State Park is an excellent destination for those looking for a picnic on the Lake. There are an endless number of picnic tables with grills that line the edge of the lake. Many of which surround the large and modern playground. There are also restroom facilities but these are closed during the winter.

Vacation Cottage Rental

There is a cottage on the property that is available for vacation rentals. The cottage amenities include a kitchen with a gas stove, refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster, microwave, and sink; a full bath; hot water; electricity; bedroom with double bed and dressers; main room with sleeper sofa, window air conditioner, furniture and dining table w/ chairs; and wood stove. Outdoor amenities include a boat dock; picnic table; fire ring and grill; and small lawn area. Bedding, dishes, cooking utensils, TV, internet, and phone are not provided.

Other Places to Visit

Salmon Creek Falls at Ludowville Park

this waterfall knocked our socks off. Most of the waterfalls we find a decent size and beautiful but this stunning waterfall was just massive with a large cavern behind it and a deep pool under it. The craziest part is that it is hidden in plain sight just beneath a public park.

Great Gully

Swimming holes and creek pools are a cherished part of many people’s summer memories. They seem to be harder and harder to find these days. We came upon one quite by accident and it was a fantastic discovery. This is a beautiful spot and hidden gem that seems to be well known to locals but is kind off the radar for everyone else.

Explore the Waterfalls of the Finger Lakes

The Finger Lakes is one of the most popular destinations in New York State. People come from far and wide to see the beautiful lakes, tour the multitude of wineries and experience the phenomenal scenery and nature of this region. One of the many draws of the Finger Lakes are the many waterfalls and gorges carved out by glaciers and erosion thousands of years ago.
