There is a meme out there that says, “I don’t know the secret to happiness, but I’ll tell you what, I’ve never been sad at a Mexican Restaurant.” I am relatively sure they were eating at this restaurant when they came up with that meme. Rancho Viejo Mexican Restaurant serves more than just the most fantastic Mexican food I’ve ever eaten, the ambiance here is completely fabulous.

We were driving through the Town of Geneseo and looking for somewhere to enjoy lunch. This restaurant stood out from all the other options not only because of the brightly colored building but it was the most unique choice among a sea of fast-food joints.

(Full Disclosure-We make it a point to never tell anyone at any restaurant that we are Adventures in New York because we want to have the same experience you would have when visiting.)

Outstanding and Authentic Mexican Food

Of course, the most important element of a restaurant is its menu and its food, and this restaurant pulls out all the stops. Their menu is enormous, It was almost overwhelming. I consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur, and there were dishes on the menu that I had never even heard of. I decided to try something I had never had before, Quesadilla Rellena. My dad who was dining with me, ordered the potato, something he had always wanted to try.

Our food came out quickly and was absolutely scrumptious. Normally I am an “eat half and bring some home for later” kind of person. But somehow, before I knew it, my plate was completely clean. I couldn’t help myself, the food was just that delicious.

I also ordered a margarita. They have several sizes-small, medium, and large (or a pitcher). I was debating between the small and the medium and decided on the small. I couldn’t believe my eyes when it arrived. It was huge! I could only imagine the fishbowl the large must be.

Festive Decor & Friendly Staff

What really made me fall in love with this restaurant was the decor. It is stunning. Colorful booths featuring elaborately designed benches and tables depicting wildlife and scenes of life in Mexico. The attention to detail was so extravagant, I felt like I had walked right into a Disney movie, or at the very least a restaurant at one of the Disney Parks.

The staff at Rancho Viejo were extremely friendly and attentive. They made us feel like special friends, rather than just people dining in their restaurant. (Please note, when we visit a restaurant or destination, we never let them know who we are or that we plan to write an article. We want to make sure we are getting the exact experience our reader will get.) Even though the restaurant was fairly busy (even after the lunchtime rush, which tells you a lot.) they never forgot about us and check in frequently, without being intrusive.

I will absolutely be returning to this wonderful restaurant! I have friends who love Mexican food as much as I do and I can’t wait to bring them there. (Plus there are a lot more items on that massive menu that I just have to try!)
