Heritage Square Museum in Ontario, NY is one of the most unique museums I have visited in the state. Much like The Genesee Country Museum and The Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, this museum is a living history museum. The museum is a collection of historic homes and buildings set around a village green. This is an excellent place to visit with children to allow them to experience what life was like 100 years ago. The buildings and grounds are meticulously maintained, and frequently open to the public.

The Museum is open from June – November on Saturdays and Sundays 1:30-4 pm. The last tour begins at 3 pm.

Although you can only enter the buildings when the museum is open, you can walk the grounds at any time. This is a peaceful place to stroll and enjoy the history around you.

Heritage Square Museum is a great day trip for families looking to learn about life in the 1800s. Private, family, and school tours can be scheduled. Please visit the Heritage Square Website for more information http://www.heritagesquaremuseum.org.

The historic buildings at Heritage Square Museum include a train station, apple dry house, Ontario Jail, a log cabin, a schoolhouse, a Baptist meeting house, and two homes as well as an exhibit barn with farm tools and artifacts.

Fun Fact: Heritage Square was used in the documentary film, I Am Rochester documentary film, as the setting for Susan B. Anthony’s home and schoolhouse.

Beautiful During Every Season

We love visiting Heritage Square. The way the buildings are set up, makes the entire village look warm and welcoming. We often enjoy walking around and admiring the buildings regardless of the time of year.
