Wilson-Tuscarora State Park

Wilson-Tuscarora State Park is a park that isn’t on most people’s radar but it really should be. There are so many attractions that would draw any nature lover and Lake Ontario enthusiasts like incredible fishing, boating, hiking, and a pristine beach that is an amazing destination, for many reasons all year round.

Beach and Viewing Platform

This beach is long and wide and a terrific destination on a hot day. There is lots of room to spread out and enjoy the cool waters of Lake Ontario. There is also handicapped access to the beach that makes it easy for everyone to enjoy a day at the beach

There is a wooden platform that visitors can use to access the beach or just take in the beauty of the Lake. The interesting fact about this beach, on a clear day you can see the Toronto Skyline across the Lake. It is especially easy to see it at night when it is all lit up.

Wintertime is an especially glorious time to check out this park because Lake Ontario turns this beach into an icy tundra full of formations and drift. It is amazing to see. Also, when the ice begins to melt near the shore, the lake current causes ice circles to form. These undulating ice chunks move in circles in the water and create ice lily pads. We visited during the late winter as the lakeshore was being to unfreeze and these circles were really cool to see.

Boat Launch

There are two boat launches at Wilson-Tuscarora State Park. There is a large boat launch with a concrete ramp and a boat slip that boaters can use for day use or overnight. There is a concrete area with benches near the boat launch that makes an excellent place to sit and fish from.

Another car-top boat launch is on the far side of the park near the scenic fishing pier that sits on twelve-mile Creek. There is a small car-top boat launch near the handicapped beach access that is for Sunset Island residents only.

Other Facilities

There are literally picnic tables all over this park. There shouldn’t be a problem snagging a picnic table for a nice summer picnic. There are approximately 7 miles of hiking trails in the park that lead through various types of terrain. If you are into disc golf this park also has a good course.
