The Corning Museum of Glass Galleries

There are several galleries as well as changing exhibits. Be warned, although the glass objects housed in these exhibits are very beautiful and unique creations, children can find this section of the museum a little dry and boring. There are other parts of this museum that will definitely interest them a great deal more.

35 Centuries of Glass Gallery

Journey through this history of glass spanning 3500 years. The gallery has glass from every era of history and shows the technique used to create it. In addition to man-made glass, enjoy glass that was created by nature. See glass from the Roman times, the Islam World, Europe, Asia, and even a special section dedicated to Venetian Glass. Enjoy the whimsical paperweight exhibit that houses the one of largest collections of paperweights in the world.

Contemporary Glass Gallery

This gallery houses glass created from 1975 to the present day. This is more of an art exhibit than the other sections of the museum. It demonstrates just what can be made from glass and its ornate beauty. This sections might feel more like an art gallery than a glass museum.

The Innovation Center at The Corning Museum of Glass

Kids love interactive museums and this is the part of the museum they will love the most. This is a fun look at how glass and science interact and give families a chance to play with glass in its various “scientific forms” and usefulness. See how glass reacts to light and its uses in mirrors such as with telescopes and periscopes. Learn about glass containers and how they make our lives a little easier and a little better. Discover what chemicals do to glass and what it can become.

Glassmaking Demonstrations and Classes

Ever curious about how they make some of those incredible glass creations? Wonder no more. You can sit in on some great glassmaking demonstrations throughout the duration of your visit. Want to make your own personalized souvenirs? You can take classes to create your own creations. There are classes specially designed for young children, where they can make ornaments, frames, and wind chimes.
