Keuka Lake State Park has a truly charming campground that has 150 tent and trailer sites. There are 53 electric sites among these. The campsites are all very open, with only woods and trees there to create the borders between sites. The campsites, while not completely secluded, the trees and woods create a slight screen between most of the sites. The sites are out in the open with very little shade. This is great for cooler days, but it can be uncomfortable on really hot days when the sun beats down on your tent.

There are 3 loops (Esperanza View, Deer Run, and Twin Fawns) and the sites in these loops are pretty close together. If you are looking to avoid a crowded campground, which it can feel like when it is full to capacity, plan your visit for early spring or for fall. The sites are all fairly spacious and can accommodate campers as well as RVs. There is one bathroom in the center of each loop.

Activities at Keuka Lake State Park Campground

There are lots of things to do at Keuka Lake State Park.

Boating

Keuka Lake State Park has an exceptional boat launch with several boat slips for campers wishing to leave their boat docked for up to 14 nights. Reservations need to be made in advance as space is limited as well as filling out and submitting a form. There is a huge parking lot for boats and boat trailers by the beach and a parking lot for boat trailers by the boat launch.

Fishing

Nothing compares to fishing in the Finger Lakes and Keuka Lake is no exception. Fish species found in Keuka Lake are Alewife, Atlantic Salmon, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed, Rainbow Trout, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Smelt, and Yellow Perch.

Hiking

There are 8 trails in the park. Several of the trails lead to the beach and the boat launch. There are two trails, the Orange and Green Trails that travel deeper into the park and let visitors enjoy the wildness of Keuka Lake State Park.

Swimming and Picnic Facilities

Enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Keuka Lake. There is a quartered-off area for swimming at the beach with a lifeguard on duty. Swimming is prohibited when the lifeguard is not posted. There is a playground near the beach for kids to play on when they are tired of the water. There are an endless number of picnic tables and grills for enjoying a lakeside picnic.

Firewood

As with every campground in New York State, transporting firewood is prohibited. There are lots of places around to purchase wood, and they are all reasonably priced.  Compared to most of the State Campgrounds firewood prices I have seen, that is actually pretty reasonable.

Reservations

Keuka Lake is a popular campground during high season due to the lake and the boat launch. If you plan to camp here, it is best to make advanced reservations. Early Spring and early Fall are the best times for camping if you want a choice of campsites. You can more or less come without a reservation. If you know what site you want, it is always good to make a reservation ahead of time at Reserveamerica.com

Choosing a Campsite

I think the hardest part of selecting a campsite is picking it blindly online. If I can’t pick out my site in person, having pictures of the sites is the next best thing. I stumbled upon a website, CampAdk, with many of the New York State Campgrounds listed with pictures of every site available. This is a great tool when you have to make reservations online. It has helped me pick some really great sites.
