Don’t let the name turn you away from visiting a gorgeous waterfall. Death Brook Falls is a stunning 70-foot waterfall. We visited during a dry period and were not fortunate enough to see it in all its glory, as it was merely trickling. Yet, the giant cliffside is quite impressive even without the water flowing over the falls.

The Waterfall

Death Brook Falls (also known as Secret Falls) is an easy waterfall to reach. When full, this waterfall fans out over the rock face creating a stunning sight. Even when at minimal capacity, the water flows over the uneven rock face creating small cascades on its way to the bottom.

As I previously mentioned, we visited during a drought, and even though it had just rained the night before, there was very little water in the creek flowing over the falls. Visitors can get right up to the base of the falls or hike to the top for a bird’s eye view from above the falls. Be careful, the rocks can be extremely slippery, and it is a long way to the bottom.

Hiking to Death Brook Falls

As Adirondack trails go, this one is super easy! It is less than 1/2 a mile from the trailhead to the falls, with a wide trail through the woods. It is a really pretty walk and as flat as can be.

Once you reach the creek, you will see a trail that shoots off to the right. This trail will bring you to the top of the falls. This trail is short but steep, with big rocks and tree roots to climb over. You need to pay attention to your footing here, as it is really easy to slip or trip.

Out and About with Nova

This is a great place to hike with dogs, as the trail is wide enough to give other hikes (and dogs) room to hike as well. As mentioned, the rocks around the falls, both at the top and bottom, can be slippery. All dogs must be leashed here, and please respect other hikers and pick up after your pet.

As always, Nova really enjoyed this hike. When we visited, there was another hiker with her dog. There was plenty of room to spread and enjoy the waterfall without worrying about our dogs getting into a squabble.
