Webster Park is a large county park located on Lake Rd in Webster, New York (just outside of Rochester).  This park, along with being gorgeous, has everything you can imagine a perfect park to have. There are endless trails, places for picnicking, pavilions for parties, tennis courts, a campground, and a fishing pier.

Webster Park Hiking

This park is perfect not only for hiking but for cross-country skiing. There are several well-marked trails throughout the park. The majority of the trails travel through the woods and tend to be very quiet and peaceful. Pets are welcome here and it is a relatively flat and easy terrain to hike. It is not unusual to see deer and other small animals roaming in these woods.

Webster Park Fishing Pier

Located on the other side of Lake Rd is the Webster Park Pier. This pier juts out into Lake Ontario and it is a great place to fish or just take a leisurely stroll by the water. Both Sunrises and sunsets are beautiful to watch from the pier and there are plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy the scenery. There is lots of wildlife to observe at the pier as well. A number of times we have spotted minks, who live under the pier, coming out to steal bait and fish that people have caught. These adorable little creatures are fun to watch as they brazenly hunt for food.

Webster Park Campground

This campground is by no means large but has some of the best campsites I have run across in a while, especially for only being a county park. The sites are all for the most part very private and with little to no view of your camping neighbors on either side. The site lots vary in size but are for the most part suitable for a single-family camper or two tents.  The campground does have more open sites that are able to accommodate larger parties. Webster Park Amenities

The park is well-equipped with restrooms, picnic pavilions, grills, tennis courts, and playground equipment. You will also find that this park is a favorite for sledding and snowboarding in the wintertime. There are five enclosed lodges within the park and a large white house that visitors can rent for parties or events. There are open shelters as well as large open field areas. This park also occasionally hosts orienteering events. There is also a beautiful creek that runs through the park.

Webster Pier in Winter

Webster Pier is absolutely stunning in the wintertime. The wind, water, and freezing temperatures create incredible ice sculptures around any solid structure. If you decide to attempt to walk to the end of the pier, it is extremely slippery and dangerous. I recommend against it. However, if you decide to try, microspikes or Yaktrax are an absolute must. If you slip, you can very easily end up in the lake.

Ice Cleats Traction Snow Grips for Hiking and Walking

Don’t let the ice and snow stop you from enjoying the breathtaking beauty of winter. These traction grips help outdoor adventurers explore icy terrain safely.

Autumn at Webster Park

We visited late in the fall. While most other parks trees were bare, this park miraculously still had some Autumn color to offer. We enjoyed a lovely hike along one of the many leaf-covered trails though out this massive park. This is a must-visit fall destination for leaf peepers.

Side Note: My kids love to play Pokemon Go when we hike and this park had them hoping. We hiked over three miles that day, which would normally have them complaining that they were tired. However, this game kept them moving because there we so many Pokemon to catch in Webster Park.

Out and About with Nova

This is a fantastic dog-friendly place to hike with your favorite four-legged friends. In fact, we saw lots of people walking their dogs here. Nova really loved running through the leaves and unfortunately, since it has recently rained, a few mud puddles as well.

The trails are narrow in many places in the park. Keep your eyes peeled for other people, dogs, and wildlife that you might walk up upon while hiking, and be sure to keep your dog leashed at all times.

Please remember to clean up after your dog. It makes all of us dog owners look bad when people find dog poo or bagged poo left on the trail.
