George B Taylor Memorial Wildlife Marsh is easy to miss if you don’t know what you are looking for. We have driven by this preserve countless times and never stopped. The wildlife marsh is located at the north end of Honeoye Lake. It is actually rather small, but it is a charming place to take a nature walk and enjoy viewing the multitude of birds and animals that call this preserve home.

Nature Walk

A nature walk here won’t take you very long. In fact, this is the perfect trail for little ones on their first nature hike. The trail itself is less than a 1/2 mile and is basically a big circle. The trail is mowed grass and can be wet and muddy after it rains. If you want to explore further off the trail into the wetlands, make sure that you wear boots, as there isn’t a distinct trail to follow and the ground gets muddier and mushier the closer you get to the wetlands.

Birds

The marsh is home to many species of birds including a pair of sandhill cranes, which have nested in the marsh for many years. This area is also a stopover for migratory birds. The geese love this area as well. When we visited we saw an enormous flock. I can’t recall seeing so many geese in one area. As we walked back into the wetland area, we saw evidence of other kinds of wildlife, such as foxes.
