From September through October, fun, spooky, and festive events are happening all over New York State. I have tried to hunt down as many events as possible to make the spookiest time of year even spookier. Here are the family fun and screamtastic events happening in the Rochester/Finger Lake Region.
Tamer Spooky Fun
Powers Farm Market
One of the best-haunted hayrides in the Finger Lakes. Both daytime and nighttime rides are available. The hayride consists of elaborate animatronics scenes with nobody jumping out and scaring riders. Visit the teepees and see all the carved pumpkins. Feed the friendly animals, including deer.

Haunted Housel
This is a fun and amazing Halloween destination. Walk through the boneyard and marvel at the hundreds of skeletons in various settings. Venture through the cemetery and enter the corn maze. Lots of fun sets that are just creepy during the day but haunting at night. Visit by night, and you will not be alone in the maze. Monsters and creatures are lurking within the maze, ready to scare you.

Meet the Spirits Cemetery Tour
Stroll through Pultneyville’s Lakeview Cemetery and meet friendly spirits from the area’s historic past under a beautiful October sky. Learn about this cast of characters, who were instrumental in carving out the town’s early history, from their final resting place in this historic Pultneyville cemetery. Please bring a flashlight and umbrella, if needed, and follow parking directions.

South Farmington Friends Cemetery Foundation: Cemetery Tour
Come take a tour of the cemetery and see a number of historic figures roaming the cemetery, talking about their lives and the roles they played in the history of the Town of Farmington.

Duvall Farms – Pumpkin Palace

Stokoe Farms
Come out and celebrate Harvest Fest at Stokoe Farms. Enjoy over 35 family fun activities, such as the rope course, hayrides, Bee Line, Billy Goat Moutain, jumping pillow, Farmer 500 Race Track, mini-pumpkin launcher, and black bear treehouse, just to name a few. Don’t forget to go out to the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin.

Celebrate the Fall season and Halloween at Wickham Farms. Choose from thousands of Pick-Your-Own Pumpkins and Pick-Your-Own Apples and tons of activities such as apple cannons, hayrides, corn pit, duck races, corn maze, feeding farm animals, kiddie train, and miniature golf, to name a few. Make sure to grab some hot donuts and fresh apple cider while you are there.

Bauman’s Farm Market
Perfect free family-friendly Halloween destination. Visit the haunted house, spooky but not too scary. The hay maze is a huge favorite with the kids. Plus pumpkins, donuts, and cider!

Long Acre Farms
Looking to enjoy a corn maze at night without people jumping out at you, then add this corn maze to your list. This corn maze allows you to explore during the day or at night. The maze takes approximately 90 minutes to complete, and visitors are provided with a gameboard and need to find puzzle pieces. There are staff members posted within the 5-acre maze to help those having a hard time navigating.

After Hours Ghost Stories Tours
Explore eerie folktales of supernatural visits and haunted happenings from across New York State on a guided walking tour through the shadowy corners of the Historic Village. Handed down from generation to generation, these are ghostly stories that persist to the present day – and some are based on historical accounts.

A Night with Edgar Allan Poe
Spend a night just before Halloween enjoying some spine-tingling chills as we explore the master of the macabre. Poe aficionado Chris Lynn will take the audience on a journey through the creepy, curious, and chilling works of Poe. This annual favorite is a great way to get into the spooky spirit just in time for Halloween.

All Hallows’ Tea
Pick your poison at Fall Tea set in the ghoulish Gallery! Get dressed to death for spooky season and savor the warm and cozy flavors of fall. Plus, explore the haunting history of the American rural cemetery movement in a brand new exhibit in the John L. Wehle Gallery and learn from our curatorial team about Victorian mourning.

Trick-or-Treating in the Historic Village
The return of a crowd favorite – Trick-Or-Treating in our 19th-century village! Make your way to eight different historic porches where kids in costume can gather sweet treats, plus enjoy an assortment of other fall-fun activities!

Spirits of the Past: A Walk in the Dark
Cloaked in darkness, the 19th-century Historic Village is a truly eerie experience. If you dare to enter candle-lit historic buildings, you’ll encounter eerie scenes that bring to life the myths and monsters of yesteryear. Each stop on the tour reveals spine-tingling tales and spooky legends – and look out, ghosts and ghouls may be lurking around the Museum grounds at every turn. Tours last approximately 75 minutes, and groups of 22 will leave the Toll House and enter the dark and spooky recesses of the Historic Village. Before and after your tour, rest your bones at the “Spirits Lounge” or the “Fright” House Pub, where you can delight in a ghoulishly good beverage and bite to eat.

Halloweenfest
HalloweenFest is a family-friendly Halloween experience in Canandaigua, NY. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will feature our 3D Halloween-themed walking trail, Zombie Hunt Wagon Ride Adventure (an add-on experience), and be on the lookout for our bewitched farm characters lurking about the grounds. Plus, enjoy Friday Family Nights with a DJ spinning up spooktacular tunes. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can catch all the football action on our TVs while enjoying the farm atmosphere. Saturday nights, we’ll be showcasing some frightfully good music with live, local bands. There will be a little something for everyone at HalloweenFest at the Farm.

Laser Stranger Things
Take a trip to the Upside Down this spooky season to experience the ’80s tunes and soundscapes of Netflix’s popular show Stranger Things! This laser show is spooky enough to give you a thrill, while still enjoying the safety of reclining under the Planetarium dome.

The Enchanted Forest
The nocturnal forest is full of mystery, and the more you know about the night, the less frightful and more wondrous it becomes! Join us for a family-friendly, not-so-scary night hike on Saturday, October 14. Visitors will walk a half-mile loop through our lantern-lit pines, where they will meet a delightful cast of characters and delve into the secrets of nocturnal life.
Cider and donuts will be available for purchase back at the Nature Center. We will have red cellophane available to cover flashlight bulbs.

Seward House Museum Haunted History Tours
Costumed guides take guests around the Seward House grounds and the darkened streets of Auburn, sharing chilling tales of Victorian funeral practices, spectral encounters from Seward family lore, grizzly true crime stories, and other spooky accounts drawn from local folklore and history.

Haunting in the Hamlet
An evening of hauntings and history in a haunted, guided cemetery walk.
What to expect: tour groups will leave every 10 minutes. Groups will be guided throughout the cemetery encountering ghosts of Marion’s past. Watch out for scares along the way. This is a walking tour through areas of some uneven ground. Tours last approximately 1 hour. The last tour begins at 8 PM.

Dive into fall fun at our farm with our expansive corn maze, where you can navigate the twists and turns as many times as you like throughout the day. Take a walk in the moonlight as hundreds of hand-carved pumpkins twinkle in the dark. This will be a truly magical evening along the Ontario Pathways trail! The round-trip walkign distance is about 1 mile with a stop for refreshments. The walk is suitable for all ages, and strollers are allowed.
