Clarendon Falls is super easy to reach and requires little effort. Located in a small town park, the falls can be viewed from the parking lot, but you can take the short walk across the grass to see them up close. I have seen some accounts of people claiming that this waterfall isn’t worth the visit. I disagree; when the falls are full, they are a gloriously beautiful sight.
The Waterfall
This is a beautiful waterfall when it is full. Unfortunately, it is not always full. Clarendon Falls is best viewed in the spring or after heavy rain. If it is an arid summer, the falls will be little more than a trickle. This was nearly the case when we visited the first time. Also, the time of day you visit makes a difference as well. We arrived very early in the morning, and the sun’s position made getting good pictures difficult. The falls were heavily shadowed in some places and overly bright in others. We visited later in the day the next time, and it was a completely different story.
We recently returned in early spring, and the waterfall was full and absolutely gorgeous. It was late in the afternoon, and even though it was a nice day, we had it all to ourselves. This is a great place to take a family portrait taken.
The Park
The park that surrounds the falls is small, with a memorial to Clarendon Veterans. There is also a decent-sized pavilion there as well. Otherwise, other than the small creek that flows from the falls, there isn’t much to this park. Other than to visit the falls, there is not much reason to visit.
