Point Au Roche State Park

Point Au Roche is a lovely state park perched on the western shore of Lake Champlain. This is a Day Use-only park for hiking, boating, and fishing. This is an underrated park that doesn’t get a lot of attention; however, it is truly a hidden gem perfect for enjoying the shores of Lake Champlain.

Hiking & Nature Center

Point Au Roche State Park

There are 14 miles of hiking trails at Point Au Roche. Many of these trails run alongside the water, providing plenty of beautiful vistas for guests to enjoy. Although many of these trails are considered loop trails, there are a number of offshoots that can make the trails a bit confusing. You will want to stop at the nature center to obtain a map.

Point Au Roche State Park

Point Au Roche is a popular destination for bird watchers, especially in the spring and fall when the snow geese stop over during the annual migration. Other animals that can be spotted at Point Au Roche are white-tail deer, beavers, ducks (mallards, wood, and black), hawks, osprey, muskrats, screech owls, barred owls, great horned owls, red and grey fox.

Beach & Picnic Area

There is a fantastic sandy beach and picnic area at Point Au Roche State Park. Guest can enjoy picnicking under the shade of trees or walk the beach. There are several picnic pavilions that can be rented through the ReserveAmerica website. There is a large modern playground that kids will love.

Fishing

This state park is excellent for fishing. Species found in Lake Champlain are brown trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, splake, kokanee salmon, landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, tiger muskellunge, muskellunge, northern pike, pickerel, and walleye.

Boating

There are several boat launches at Point Au Roche. The main boat launch is a concrete ramp able to accommodate multiple boats launching. There is a car-top launch with a dock further into the park. Incidentally, the car launch pier is an excellent fishing pier.
