Wax museums can be a bit corny and, let’s face it…somewhat creepy. The Niagara Wax Museum of History is a fun museum that will not only entertains but educates. It may not be the most sophisticated wax museum you can visit, and admittedly, it is a bit on the cheesy side, however, it is still a very affordable way to pass an hour or so in Niagara Falls.

Enter Through the Gift Shop

You literally enter this museum through the gift shop. It is actually a pretty nice gift shop with the typical Niagara Falls souvenirs. This isn’t a large museum, and we had the place completely to ourselves when we went. Of course, it was a very snowy day in February. I don’t know how crowded the museum gets in the summer, but it is located in a very popular area just around the corner from the Hard Rock Cafe and across the street from Niagara Falls State Park.

Word of warning

The museum needs to be cold for obvious reasons. Even though I wore a jacket, I was still pretty chilly during our visit. I can imagine this might be the perfect place to escape the summertime heat during the hotter months.

Exhibits at The Niagara Wax Museum of History

There are lots of exhibits at the wax museum depicting the area’s history and, of course, Niagara Falls. If you are looking for specific wax replicas of famous people, the museum only has a few.

Niagara Falls History

This area of New York is very rich in history and the museum does a great job presenting a visual presentation for its patrons. These scenes are more than just wax figures, they are full sets with props and backdrops.

Daredevils of the Falls

Niagara Falls is a world-famous attraction that has captivated visitors for over 150 years. In that time, people were willing to try life-threatening stunts (going over the falls in barrels, as well as other objects or tightrope walking over the Niagara River) that were, more often than not, deadly. The museum has exhibits that are dedicated to fearless thrill-seekers.

Famous Figures

This museum does not have a lot of replicas of famous people, but it does have a few. This is definitely more of a history museum, and most of the recognizable people are in historical settings. Several singular wax replicas exist- Princess Diana, Mother Teresa, and Julia Roberts.

Photo Opportunity

The best part of this museum was definitely the chance for a corny photo opp, and we had a blast taking ridiculous pictures of each other. There is a setup of a barrel going over the falls, and it is perfect for anyone who wants to be silly and ham it up for the camera.
