Little Sand Point

Pisecos Campgrounds are incredible Adirondack camping experiences on the shores of Piseco Lake. In 2023, Little Sand Point Campground and Point Comfort Campground were combined to create Piseco Campground. This state-run campground is a little on the rustic side in terms of comfort, but in terms of raw natural beauty, nothing compares. If you want to try lakeside camping, this campground should be on your list.

Camping

Little Sand Point Area

Little Sand Point

When we camped at Piseco Campground, we stayed at Little Sand Point area. One of the things that makes the camping at Little Sand Point incredible is that 75% of the campsites are on the water or have access to the water. Many of these sites are excellent, but a few are small or lack privacy due to the layout of the campground, which is a narrow strip of land situated between Piseco Lake and Old Piseco Road.

Little Sand Point

Initially, we had mixed feeling about Little Sand Point. Without a doubt, our campsite was amazing. However, there are a few drawbacks to camping at this campground. We, fortunately, didn’t visit during a busy time; therefore, many of the sites throughout the campground were empty. As great as our site was, if the other sites had been occupied, we would have had very little privacy with other campers almost right on top of us.

Little Sand Point

Also, the is only one road in and out (at 15 mph); it takes time to get to the far end of the campground, being especially mindful of children who might be running around the park.

Point Comfort

While there are more campsites at the Point Comfort Area, there aren’t nearly as many sites directly on the water. Many of the campsites are wooded and big enough to accommodate RVs.

Facilities

Little Sand Point

There aren’t a lot of creature comforts at Piseco Lake. The bathrooms are rustic at best, but there are flush toilets and running water. There are several bathrooms spread out the campground.

The shower house is located along the highway between the two camping areas.

Little Sand Point Area has a narrow stretch of sand beach for campers to enjoy the cool waters of Piseco Lake. No lifeguards are on duty at the beach, so you swim at your own risk.

The Point Comfort Area has a larger beach as well as a large and lovely picnic area alongside the water. This is a beautiful place to enjoy a day at Piseco Lake.

Kayak and Canoe rentals are available.

Boating

Little Sand Point

There is a boat launch and dock at both camping areas. Many of the campsites at Little Sand Point Area have the ability to launch small crafts directly from the site. We had a small beach at our campsite, and we could launch our standup paddleboard directly from our campsite. The water is shallow along the shoreline for several feet out, which is great for canoeing and kayaking.

Out and About With Nova

Little Sand Point

Nova had a blast camping at Piseco Lake, maybe more than we did. As I mentioned, we had a small beach at our site. Nova spent almost 90% of our time at Little Sand Point playing in the water or sitting on that beach watching the water.

This is a fantastic hike that can be accessed from the Little Sand Point Area. The hike is less than a mile but is strenuous as it gains elevation quickly as it reaches the summit. The view of Piseco Lake below is breathtaking (thanks to the hike) and worth the effort it takes to reach the top.
