When it comes to drive-by waterfalls, Aunt Sarah’s Falls is pretty incredible, depending on the season. This is a great waterfall to visit without truly having to expend any effort getting to it. Located directly on the side of the road, you can’t miss it when you are driving past. Aunt Sarah’s Falls is approximately 90 feet and when full, quite spectacular. The water plummets down the rock face in such a way as to cause a stunning bridal veil effect.

When to Visit

Aunt Sarah’s Falls is one of those waterfalls whose flow is entirely dependent on the water table. When the water table is low the falls slow to a trickle. Although even when there isn’t much of a flow, it is still really beautiful to see.

During the height of summer, when things are dry, you won’t see much at Aunt Sarah’s Falls. However, show up after heavy rain and it’s a completely different story. The Falls are full, heavy, and gorgeous. It is not unusual for the falls to overflow into the road. Springtime and after a good rain is the best time to see the falls. We have visited in winter and they were equally beautiful. The ice and snow make for an impressive sight.

Getting to Aunt Sarah’s Falls

If you head south on Route 14 from Watkins Glen, Aunt Sarah’s Falls is located on your left-hand side just before you enter the town of Montour Falls. There is a parking lot across the street from the Falls. You can cross the road for an up-close look at the Falls, but the traffic can be heavy on Route 14, so be careful.
