Botsford Nature Preserve

If you’re looking for a short but rewarding hiking experience surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, consider visiting Botsford Nature Preserve. Despite its small size, this preserve is full of exquisite beauty waiting to be explored. Botsford Nature Preserve is part of the Finger Lakes Land Trust. I’m a big fan of land trusts and the work they do to preserve land from development and open it up for people to enjoy the beauty of nature.

The Trail

Botsford Nature Preserve

There is only one trail in this preserve, and it’s fairly short, less than 3/4 of a mile in and out. Which might not sound like it’s worth it, but believe me, it was. This trail what it lacks in length, it makes up for in beauty. During our visit in late May, we were captivated by the vibrant purple wild phlox that adorned the trail. This is the perfect hike for anyone looking to just stretch their legs and enjoy a little bit of nature.

The trail is quite narrow in spots, so you should always check yourself for ticks afterward. I didn’t see any poison ivy along the trail, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there. So stay on the trail to protect yourself. The glen is shaded but we didn’t have a problem with bugs. I can’t promise that it will be this way all summer long.

CreekWalk

Botsford Nature Preserve

As you follow the trail, it meanders its way to the creek, leading you to a breathtaking spot where you can marvel at a small but picturesque waterfall. Afterward, if you choose to continue hiking along the trail, it will ultimately bring you to the creek, offering you the opportunity to wade in and leisurely stroll downstream through the gorge. This delightful and brief creek walk provides the perfect excursion for a scorching summer day.

Out and About with Nova

Botsford Nature Preserve

This is a dog-friendly destination. Nova especially loved walking in the creek, and she even jumped into one of the creek pools. As I said before, this isn’t a long trail, so it won’t wear your dog out, but they might enjoy cooling off in the creek.

All dogs must be leashed at this preserve. Please remember to clean up after your pet. This is a carry-in/carry-out park, so be sure to take your poop baggy home with you. (Please don’t be the person who leaves a bag of poop on the side of the trail! Gross!)
