We stumbled across this park quite by accident, and it was an amazing find. I love camping in off-the-beaten-path areas like this, especially when there is water involved. I had no idea this park even existed. It was a delightful surprise. Located in the Southern Tier area, Kanakadea Park is located on Almond Lake.

I love the name of this park! It just sorts of rolls off the tongue. More than that, what a beautiful place to camp. Almost every campsite facing the small lake. Although there isn’t a great deal of privacy between sites, it’s still a beautiful campground.

Camping

I love campgrounds that allow camping near the water, whether that be a creek, river, or lake. Although the water sites at Kanakadea Park aren’t directly on the lake, they face the lake and aren’t too far away from it. The campsites are, for the most part, fairly wide open and not spaced very far apart. If you prefer sites with a little bit more privacy when you’re camping, this isn’t the place for you. There are other sites that are more shaded, but these are away from the water.

There are 70 sites able to accommodate tents, campers, and RV’s. However, only 40 of these sites are electric. There are also 4 primitive cabins, 2 of which have electricity. Dogs are allowed (with proof of rabies vaccination) at the campsite but not the cabins.
