I love visiting the covered bridges of New York State. They provide a connection to the past and the state’s rich history while also displaying beautiful architecture in a delightful setting. While most of these bridges are historic, there are exceptions, such as the Cannon Covered Bridge, which was constructed in 2022.
Constructed: 2022

About Cannon Covered Bridge
The Community of the Town of Bennington requested that the new covered bridge, which would replace the old iron pin-connected bridge, be a covered bridge. They believed that a covered bridge would pay homage to the town’s rich history. Once, the town had six picturesque covered bridges that crossed Cayuga Creek. However, the last of these bridges was tragically destroyed in 1966, marking the end of an era for the community.
The bridge was named in honor of US Army Sgt. Charles R Cannon, who grew up in Cowlesville. Cannon served in the 35th Engineering Battalion, Co. C, constructing roads and bridges in Europe, and was killed during WWII.

Getting to Cannon Covered Bridge
Cannon Covered Bridge is a one-lane bridge situated on a rural road. There are no designated parking areas on either side of the bridge, but you can park along the shoulder a short distance away. It’s important to note that all the land around the bridge is privately owned, and access to Cayuga Creek is not allowed. Please be considerate and respectful to the people who live near the bridge.
