You probably already know that New York State only has one national forest, The Finger Lakes National Forest. What you might find surprising is that this national forest has a small parcel of land that sits on Seneca Lake and it is spectacular with waterfalls, a historic building, and a beautiful section of lakeshore.

Fossenvue Trail
There is a 1/4 mile graveled trail that leads down to the lakeshore. While the top of the trail leading from the parking lot is relatively flat, it changes fairly quickly. There is a sign notifying visitors when the degree of incline hits 20% and of sharp switchbacks. This is easy to get down, but you might find yourself huffing and puffing on the way back up.
Waterfalls
At Caywood Point, there are some small waterfalls that pop up only in springtime or after heavy rain. But if you’re lucky enough to spot them, they’re quite pretty. You can find the falls halfway down the hill – there’s a bench nearby. If you peek over the fence, you’ll spot a tall, skinny waterfall to the right.
While these falls might not blow your mind, they are really lovely and add so much to the peaceful environment.
Lakeshore
The best part of Caywood Point is its unspoiled expanse of Seneca Lake shoreline. Not only is there a large beach that spreads around the entire point, there is also a dock for those who decide to stop in while they are boating on the Lake and exploring the park. This is an excellent picnic spot with several tables that have an excellent view of the Lake.
“Queen’s Castle”
The piece of property along the beach was known as Camp Fossenvue. The building on the property is the last structure that was built and it was a gift to Elizabeth Smith Miller from her daughter for her 77th birthday in 1899. It was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1999. This camp was a place where the suffragettes would meet to engage in recreational activities as well as discussing politics and the movement.

Hector Falls is a splendid waterfall located on Seneca Lake that is easy to visit as it is right alongside the highway.
Is there somewhere there you can find flat rocks smooth
For crafting?
I highly recommend the parks and preserves along Lake Ontario. This is the motherload of flat rocks. I’d love to see your creations.
