Do you know what is really delicious? A golden retriever. Well…not a real golden retriever, that would just be disturbing. I am talking about one of the specialty hot dogs served up at one of the best hot dog joints in Rochester, Dogtown.
That’s right, every specialty hot dog is named after a dog breed and these dogs are loaded. I dare you to read through the menu and not find yourself drooling. If you are looking for a unique dining experience, then head over to Dogtown. I guarantee they’ll have you begging for more.
(Full Disclosure-We make it a point to never tell anyone, at any restaurant that we are Adventures in New York because we want to have the same experience that you would have when visit.)
For The Love Of Dogs
Do you love dogs? Well, then you’ll love the walls plastered with dog photos at Dogtown. At Dogtown, they love dogs just as much, maybe even more, than you do. When you enter the establishment, you will see that the walls have tons of photographs of beloved dogs. Take a moment to appreciate every adorable canine that adorns the walls.
A Dog For Every Appetite
There are 18 specialty dogs to choose from and each is loaded to the max with fresh and delicious toppings. When we visited it was hard to choose from many delectable choices.
My daughter ordered the Mongrel because it was totally loaded. She wasn’t disappointed. I order the Golden Retriever, which I totally loved. My son, ever the picky eater ordered a regular hot dog with ketchup. What can you do? My husband ordered the Coyote and a Mushroom Swiss Burger. Our food was amazingly delicious. So delicious in fact that we are already planning a return trip to try some of the other specialty dogs.

Superior Ingredients
I know when people think hot dogs, top-notch and quality ingredients aren’t usually thoughts that jump to mind. Dogtown only uses the best ingredients such as serving all hot dogs and sandwiches on french bread. The hot dogs served at Dogtown are Zweigle’s German Franks. The burgers are made from fresh locally produced beef. The sauerkraut is completely fresh and the salads are made from romaine lettuce rather than iceberg. All ingredients are as real and fresh as can possibly be. The soups, macaroni salad, and coleslaw are freshly homemade.
Vegetarian and Vegan
It isn’t often, if ever, that you visit a restaurant specializing in hot dogs and find a vegetarian/vegan-friendly menu. Hog dog stand and vegetarian/veganism don’t usually go hand in hand but this is yet another instance where Dogtown is an exception. They have an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu that even makes vegetarian versions of their famous specialty dogs.
Award-winning Food
Dogtown has a reputation in the foodie community for serving only the best food. This reputation has been reinforced by numerous awards and acknowledgments. Such 8-time winner of the City Newspaper Cheap Eats Award, 4-time winner of Best Vegetarian Chili from Great Bowls of Chili, and 8-time winner of the Best Hot Dog by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. 4 Square has voted this restaurant one of the Top 10 Hot Dog Joints in America.
This hot dog restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. With great food and a fun atmosphere, this restaurant is something everyone will enjoy. I know we are going to going to go back and try some other “breeds”.
