Exploring Eighteen Mile Creek Conservation Park

Eighteen Mile Creek Conservation Park is a great place to hike for all skill levels. This trail is long, but it doesn’t take a great deal of endurance because, for the most part, it is primarily flat and level. The path for the first 1/4 mile or so is paved; after that, it becomes a typical dirt path. There are a few trails that lead down to the Creek where the pavement ends. These paths lead down to areas where you can walk right in the Creek.

If you continue hiking the main trail, you will soon find yourself walking along the cliff high above Eighteen Mile Creek. Although the trees partially obscure the view of the Creek, there are several places along the trail where you can catch a fantastic view of the Creek.

Hike to the Waterfalls

There are two waterfalls at Eighteen Mile Creek Conservation Park. Neither waterfall was at total capacity when we visited, but I can imagine that when they are, they are astounding. The first waterfall is literally right along the trail. You can’t miss it. It will come up on your right-hand side about a mile from the trailhead. You can see the falls pretty well from the trail. There aren’t any trails that lead to the bottom of the falls, and I strongly discourage you from trying to get too close to the falls, as the terrain here is extremely steep. Keep following the trail, and you will wrap around to the other side of the falls, to another viewing area.

If you travel another .3 miles, you will come to a trail the shoots off to the right; follow this trail as it heads down into the ravine. At the very bottom, you will see a waterfall in the distance ahead. If you follow the path through the tall brush, you can get right up close to the second waterfall.

Out and About with Nova

Dogs are permitted at Eighteen Mile Creek Conservation Park as long as they are leashed and curbed. Of course, Nova had a wonderful time hiking this trail. Especially when she was able to trample through the fallen leaves, while she didn’t seem at all impressed with the waterfalls or the spectacular view of the Creek, she did enjoy seeing the squirrels and chipmunks scurrying through the woods. This is a long hike, so make sure you bring some water for your four-legged friends, especially on hot days.

As always, Nova wants me to remind you to clean up after your pets and carry the “poo bags” home with you. Dog poo and waste bags on the trail make all of us walking our pets look bad. Please be considerate of your fellow hikers.
