Enjoy the twinkle of thousands of lights spread over the 15 acres of the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine. This is a beautiful way to celebrate the holidays. Families will enjoy walking around the property and seeing the many lovely light displays while listening to Christmas music. I can’t stress enough how fantastic this Christmas event is. It went a long way toward making the season a lot brighter.
The grounds are very well lit and there are lots of areas to explore so there is plenty of room to spread out and not have to be close to other people. We visited on opening night and there was hardly anyone around. The Festival of Lights really reminds those who visit about the reason for the season and brings the celebration back to its roots.
Don’t forget to climb to the top of the Basilica and get a bird’s eye view of all the lights. This was completely fantastic. We actually climbed up to the top of the Basilica three times. If you get there before dark on a nice night, you might even get to see a view of a stunning sunset from the top. This is an annual event and has grown every year since it first began in 1991 with a nativity scene.
If the Basilica is open when you visit, make sure to stop in and see the beautiful lights in there, as well. There is plenty of parking and this is a very family-friendly event that I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone looking to put some merry back into their Christmas.
