It has happened again! We found yet another amazing waterfall, completely by accident. Many times when we are out on our adventures, we will get lost on purpose. We always find the most amazing places when we wing it, and this magnificent waterfall on the Moose River is definitely one of them. Gould Mill Falls was so out of the way that we didn’t even know what it was called until we had some time to research when we got home.

Exploring the Falls

We were traveling down a country road and came to a one-lane bridge; one glance down at the river told us there was a waterfall down there. There was a parking area, which we took as an invitation to get out and explore. Gould Mill Falls are dazzling falls that are large enough to be dramatic but laid out in such a way as to allow visitors to get right up close.

This waterfall is absolutely gorgeous, not just for its full falls but also for its placement in the extraordinary scenery you can immerse yourself in. You can climb over the one side of the falls and sit down and enjoy watching the water streaming, or you can venture down into the “splash zone” and enjoy the intense mist.

Waterfalls can be very slippery. When you explore this area, please be sure to wear proper footwear. Flip flops might seem like the ideal waterfall footwear, but they aren’t. Most accidents that occur at waterfalls are by people wearing flip-flops or crocs. We always recommend hiking boots or sneakers.

Beware: We had mediocre cell service here. We kept going in and out of service as we explored the falls. If you decide to explore the falls, you do so at your own risk. We do not encourage people to climb the falls and put their physical safety at risk.

The Moose River

Whenever we visited the Adirondacks, We like to drive along the various rivers. My favorite is the Moose River. I love the massive rocks that are spread throughout the River. Imagine my delight when we discovered that we happened to find ourselves on the west branch of the Moose River. We decide to walk down the river a ways and just enjoy its natural beauty for a while.

As you walk further away from the waterfall up the river, you can see the old mill which also has some falls. I have found some places that kind of glom these two waterfalls together. You really can’t explore the falls at the mill as the property is posted. We didn’t see any posted signs, however, near the Gould Mill Falls.
