Whenever we stumble upon extraordinary places, I get so excited to share them. Haunted Housel is one of these places that is just awesome, and I hope that everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy this season. This is everything that is great about Halloween. Haunted Housel is a walkthrough display located in Canandaigua and has been a long-running labor of love. Karl Housel has spent long hours bringing joy to those who come to visit this Halloween destination. The meticulous attention to detail is astonishing. If you are only going to get out to one Halloween destination… make it this one.
Walk Through the Boneyard
When you first drive up to this residence just outside Canandaigua, the sheer size and amount of Halloween decor are almost overwhelming. Once you begin walking through and taking in each carefully arranged display, you can see little details and clever touches that are just too perfect for words. This demonstrates just how much attention to detail has been devoted to this attraction to make it a fun and festive place to explore for the entire family. Take your time and really look at each setting to see comical twists of whimsy and spook-tactular flashes of genius.
Cemetary
Follow the driveway to the back, where you will enter a cemetery that is yet another fun area to explore. There are lots of amusing touches here as well. We visited during the day, but it is very clear that nighttime is the best time to pay a call to Haunted Housel if you are looking to add a more chilling element to your visit. This cemetery is also the gateway to the Haunted Corn Maze.
Haunted Corn Maze
The Haunted Corn Maze is one of the best I’ve come across. There are lots of scenes set up within the maze with ghosts, demons, witches, and more. They are all animatronic and are fun to interact with. For small children or those who frighten easily, visiting during the day is just spooky enough to be amusing and entertain without being downright scary.
For those braver souls looking for something frightening, then visit at night, when the maze is far from empty and live actors are waiting to scare the dickens out of you. FYI -This is not like other haunted events where the actors grab you or pull you in anywhere. If you are interested in seeing the maze at night but don’t want to be scared, we were told all you need to do is tell the owner that you would rather not be scared, and they will tell the actors to leave you alone.
Pumpkins
While you are visiting, don’t miss a chance to purchase your Halloween pumpkins, gourds, or lovely potted mums. They are all much more reasonably priced here than at other marketplaces that I’ve seen. The pumpkins were quite big and not expensive at all.
