I really enjoy eating and trying new foods. Finding and trying out different places to eat and sharing them with my readers is one of my favorite parts of Family Adventures. There are so many places in our incredible state that serve delicious food, that will tantalize your taste buds, especially when it comes to sweets. Incidentally, ice cream is one of my favorite treats. My personal philosophy is and will always be, “Eat dessert first, life is uncertain.”
I had heard about this little ice cream shop through a friend’s Facebook post and it looked so intriguing that I had to check it out for myself. Best decision ever. Located in an area in Rochester known as the South Wedge, Hedonist Artisan Ice Cream (and its next-door neighbor Hedonist Artisan Chocolates.) is a woman-owned business that serves some of the best ice cream I have ever had the privilege to indulge in.
(Full Disclosure-We make it a point to never tell anyone, at any restaurant that we are Adventures in New York because we want to have the same experience that you would have when visit.)

Hand-Made & Locally Sourced
We were greeted by a very friendly young lady, who warmly welcomed us. While the menu is not extensive, it is nonetheless impressive with some unique flavors, such as matcha (a Japanese green tea flavor) and salted caramel. Seriously tough choices.
All the ice cream at Hedonist Artisan Ice Cream is handmade from locally sourced fruit and cream. The ice cream flavors, made in small batches, are continually changing. The waffle cones are also handmade.
Vegan & Dairy-Free Options
Our server offered us the chance to sample the flavors to help us decide what we wanted. While most of the flavors are regular ice cream. There are dairy-free and vegan varieties available. I am always up for trying new things and I wanted to see how dairy-free vegan ice cream compared to regular ice cream. I was completely blown away. It was delectably rich and creamy. I would never have guessed that it was dairy-free. I wish I had known about this place years ago when my son was suffering from dairy intolerance. It would have been the perfect place to bring him.
Also, don’t forget to ask for a customer loyalty card. Buy 6 ice creams and you will get one for free.
Getting There
We visited Hedonist Artisan Ice Cream on a Thursday evening, and although the shop itself wasn’t too busy, the surrounding area was. We found finding somewhere to park difficult along the street. It took us a few minutes to locate a parking spot and we had to walk a bit to get there. It wasn’t an uncomfortably cold evening, so the walk wasn’t horrible. There are lots of businesses around, and we felt very safe wandering around the neighborhood.
