This was another surprise waterfall for us. I like to use Google Maps to help me find waterfalls to visit when we are out and about on our adventures by searching “waterfalls near me.” This waterfall happens to pop up, and the pictures on Google didn’t do it any justice. We visited just because we like finding new waterfalls. We were not expecting the fantastic waterfall we encountered or how astonishingly close we could get to it.

Visiting the Falls
As I said, I wasn’t prepared for how amazing this waterfall was going to turn out to be. What we could see from the parking lot looked man-made and rather unimpressive. That is until we really got a look at the falls below. Getting down the hill to the falls can be a challenge, you’ll need to be fairly sure-footed. I ended up on my butt halfway down, skidded a way down the hill. The beach is really pretty, in fact, the entire area is incredibly lovely, however, you almost fail to notice it due to the overwhelming presence of Lyons Falls.
You can get really close to this waterfall. My feet were right along the rocks with the water rushing by, and I was being bathed in mist to give you an idea. The sheer thundering power of the falls could be physically felt. It is really quite exhilarating.
Warning: This can be dangerous, so if you have children with you, I don’t recommend getting too close to the falls. Always wear proper footwear, such as hiking boots or sneakers, as the rocks around the falls can be slippery. Flip-flops and Crocs are not recommended for this type of destination.
If you decide to get close to falls, you do so at your own risk. We do not encourage people to put their physical safety at risk.
Park on the River
The is another park down the road, or it can be reached by a short walk along the beach, where visitors can view the falls head-on. It is a way away making getting a good picture difficult. The park is also a nice place relax along the river. It is a sand beach and people can wade in the water on a hot day. It also appears to be a popular fishing spot.
Fun Fact: The Black River is one of the few rivers that flow north. It is a tributary of Lake Ontario.
