New York State is renowned for its iconic foods, and Monica’s Pies is no exception, home of the grape pie. Grape Pies are a Naples specialty that dates back to the 1950s and are a focal point of the annual Naples Grape Festival. If you visit the Naples Grape Festival September 22nd-24th, 2023, you can try one of these delicious pies for yourself.
History of Monica’s Pies
Monica began selling her grape pies in 1983, to make use of the family’s concord grape crop, which were not popular with the local wineries at the time, and to be able to stay home with her young children. She began selling them on a roadside stand and Monica’s Pies grew from there. Monica’s Pies have been featured on the Food Network, The New York Times, and Better Home & Gardens and her pie selection has expanded to an impressive and delicious extent.
Oodles of Pie Choices
We recently visited Naples and I made a beeline for Monica’s pies. I have been wanting to visit for a while and try one of their pies. First, I must confess that I didn’t buy a grape pie, I was sidelined by a super yummy-looking Key Lime Pie and I am a sucker for Key Lime Pie. To be honest, it was hard to make an honest choice while salivating. The Grasshopper Pie also had me drooling. In fact, you can purchase more than 25 different varieties of pie. Let me assure you, the Key Lime Pie is straight-up fantastic.
Other Treats
Monica’s Pies also makes savory pies, such as chicken pot pie and quiches. They also make jams, jellies, and conserves. When we visited, there were other items for sale, such as coffee mugs and pie servers.
