There is no shortage of waterfalls in New York State. Many of them are easy to see without having to expend a huge amount of physical effort, and the Papermill Falls at Papermill Park is one of these such falls. You can get closer to the falls by climbing down a short trail on either side of the falls, but otherwise, it can be viewed from the top.
The Waterfall
This waterfall is really beautiful, especially when the water is really flowing. It is exceptionally wide with lots of drops that give this waterfall a truly dramatic appearance. Visitors can view the waterfall from multiple vantage points and really get super close. This is a good waterfall for photo shoots for senior pictures and family photos.
There are two trails that lead down to the creek and the base of the waterfalls. The one closest to the parking lot, which appears to be the most utilized, is slightly steep but entirely manageable. This looks like it could be muddy on a rainy day. The other trail is more gradual and easier to traverse.
Viewing Area
There is a bridge that crosses over the top of the waterfall. You can get a great view of the top of the waterfall as well as a way down the creek. The only drawback of this pretty park is that it has been tagged with obscene graffiti. It’s really sad that people would ruin the natural beauty of a place like this with spray paint. It’s really disgraceful. Hopefully, there is something that can be done to clean this up.
Picnic at the Park
This park has several benches and picnic tables with grills. This seems like a great place to enjoy a nice family picnic. One of the things that are also nice about this park is that it is on a quiet back road. So, even though it is fairly open, you don’t have the heavy traffic rolling through.
