If you’re in the mood for a short, scenic adventure, you’ve got to check out Rexford Falls. This lovely spot checks all the boxes: a beautiful waterfall, a historic bridge, and a peaceful gorge. It’s just the right place for a quick nature escape or a relaxing afternoon. Whether you take in the falls from above or hike down into the gorge for a closer view, you’re going to fall in love with this charming gem!

The Historic Footbridge

One of the highlights here is the historic bowstring truss footbridge that crosses directly over the Falls. Originally built in 1877, this iron bridge was restored in 2006 and offers a beautiful overhead view of the gorge and the falls below. It’s also a great spot for photos!

On both sides of the bridge, inviting picnic facilities feature charming pavilions that offer shade from the sun (or rain.) These elegant spaces are ideal for families and friends to gather and enjoy meals surrounded by nature.

Viewing the Falls

Rexford Falls is a beautiful 40-foot waterfall. Visitors can enjoy views of the waterfall from several vantage points at the top with almost no effort whatsoever. When we visited in the summer, it was challenging to see the falls through the dense foliage. I imagine that during the winter, when the trees are bare, the falls would be much easier to see.

You can get a closer look at the Falls by hiking to the bottom and walking through the gorge. On the parking area side of the Falls, there is a trail that leads down the hill to the gorge. It isn’t immediately apparent that you can hike to the bottom, but if you follow the fence, you will see a trail that leads down to the bottom. The trail is relatively steep for the last little bit, so remember that you will have to climb back up.

The falls cascade into Mad Brook, surrounded by steep rock walls and lush greenery. The gorge in this area is truly stunning. During the summer, it appears that green moss covers much of the creekside. It’s important to note that when the falls are flowing strongly, you’ll need to get your feet wet to reach them. Please exercise extreme caution, as some rocks can be very slippery.
