If you find yourself in the Thousand Islands, you can’t visit without stopping in the town of Alexandria Bay, the heart of the Thousand Islands. This small town has so much history and beauty hidden, like Scenic View Park. This splendid park is located right on the St. Lawrence River and provides visitors with a fantastic view of Boldt Castle in the distance.
Scenic Walkway
If you are looking for a place to take a stroll along the St. Lawrence River, you are in luck. This park has a wooden boardwalk where you can walk and take in the incredible scenery across the River. It runs from the larger picnic park to the smaller park with a lovely gazebo. From the walkway, you get a perfect view of Boldt Castle, as well as fairly far up and down the river.
Diving the St. Lawrence
Although you might not think it, the St. Lawrence River, especially near Alexandria Bay is an excellent diving location due to the number of sunken ships in the River. The Wreck of the Islander is just off the shore of Scenic View Park and divers can enter the water right from the park.
Casino Island
There is a small island out in front of that park, Casino Island, that can be reached by a footbridge (which actually looks like a replica of the Thousand Islands Bridge.) There are benches and a gazebo. This island is a nice place to relax on the water or go fishing.
On our last visit, we picked up a few subs from Jreck’s around the corner and our lunch while we sat beside the water.
Picnic in the Park
There are lots of places to picnic at this park. There is a large covered pavilion you can sit under or plenty of picnic tables outside. The picnic tables outside have grills. This area of the park has gardens and large rocks that make this area incredibly beautiful. This is a great place to bring the kids for a weekend BBQ, as there is a really nice modern playground.
This park features a handicap-accessible elevator that takes visitors from the boardwalk to the picnic area. There is a paved sidewalk, but it’s quite steep when heading up the hill to the picnic pavilion.
Swimming
Alexandria Bay Beach Park is adjacent to Scenic View Park; it is the town beach (as evident in the name). This beach has lifeguards on duty and a nice sandy beach. This is a great place to cool off in the waters of the St. Lawrence River.
